My name is George Walish and I am a Web Designer and Developer currently living in Philadelphia, PA. I’m moving to Paris for the entire month of July and this blog will be my communication with my family and friends while I’m away. Today I took the metro up to Montmartre to walk around and take photos. It is a beautiful part of the city with a rich history in the arts. Inspired by this history, I decided to shoot in black and white. While there were a lot of tourists, it was still very cool to be in such a great part of the city. La Fête nationale or Bastille Day is the independence day of France and it’s celebrated on July 14th. Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French revolution in 1789. Every year there is a huge celebration involving numerous activities including a parade, the Bals des pompiers (Fireman’s Balls) and fireworks. I wish I had a much better blog post than this, but it has been cold and rainy yesterday and today. As a result, other than heading out to the market and the boulangerie I haven’t been out to explore more of the city. Today I made myself a jambon and fromage sandwich on a fresh baguette and ate lunch at the Champs de Mars park by the Eiffel Tower. The park is landscaped beautifully and although there are a lot of tourists, I was able to find a quiet little bench all to myself. After lunch I walked for three hours along the banks of the Seine River back to my apartment. I spent the majority of my weekend waiting out rain, trying to adjust to the time change, watching the world cup and catching up with my cousin Eck. Eck and I had some good meals, a few laughs and maybe a few to many beers on Saturday. Bonjour! Happy 4th of July to all my friends and family back home! Today I met up with my cousin Eck to hangout and watch the France Vs. Germany football match. Today wasn’t the most exciting day. I am still adjusting to the time difference and still have a little jet lag . I took a walk down to the River Seine and strolled along it’s banks for awhile. Notre Dame was overrun with tourists which discouraged me from stopping for photo. After that I started my way home and stopped at the market and the boulangerie for a baguette. Today was a long day, but well worth it. My flight arrived at about 2 PM local time, one hour late thanks to a drunk French girl that got kicked of my plane at JFK airport. Always being prepared (I mean that sarcastically), I didn’t have any Euros on me when I arrived and the two currency exchange places I passed at Charles de Gaulle were closed.
