Montmartre In Black & White

Posted by in General

Today I took the metro up to Montmartre to walk around and take photos. It is a beautiful part of the city with a rich history in the arts. Inspired by this history, I decided to shoot in black and white. While there were a lot of tourists, it was still very cool to be in such a great part of the city. Today was definitely one of the highlights of my trip thus far. I hope you enjoy looking at the photographs as much I enjoyed taking them. Cheers,…read more

La Fête Nationale

Posted by in General

La Fête nationale or Bastille Day is the independence day of France and it’s celebrated on July 14th. Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French revolution in 1789. Every year there is a huge celebration involving numerous activities including a parade, the Bals des pompiers (Fireman’s Balls) and fireworks. While I was not able to attend all the events, I did make it to some. I started off my journey with lunch close to my apartment before making my way to the Champs-Élysées to check out the Arc de…read more

Cold Hard Rain

Posted by in General

I wish I had a much better blog post than this, but it has been cold and rainy yesterday and today. As a result, other than heading out to the market and the boulangerie I haven’t been out to explore more of the city. I am hoping to get out tomorrow and have something much more interesting to type about with some good photographs. Cheers, George

Lunch at Tour Eiffel

Posted by in General

Today I made myself a jambon and fromage sandwich on a fresh baguette and ate lunch at the Champs de Mars park by the Eiffel Tower. The park is landscaped beautifully and although there are a lot of tourists, I was able to find a quiet little bench all to myself. After lunch I walked for three hours along the banks of the Seine River back to my apartment. My apartment isn’t a three hour walk away from the Eiffel tower, but I was stopping to take in the city…read more

Saturday and Sunday

Posted by in General

I spent the majority of my weekend waiting out rain, trying to adjust to the time change, watching the world cup and catching up with my cousin Eck. Eck and I had some good meals, a few laughs and maybe a few to many beers on Saturday. While I had a great time, I didn’t take a whole lot of photos and I don’t have anything exciting to report as I was a little more in vacation mode this weekend. Tomorrow is Monday and I plan to get a full…read more

France Vs Germany

Posted by in General

Bonjour! Happy 4th of July to all my friends and family back home! Today I met up with my cousin Eck to hangout and watch the France Vs. Germany football match. Eck came by my apartment to check it out and pick me up to take me to the 17th arrondissement where he lives. The best part was that he was on his scooter which meant I got to ride on the back. It was an adrenaline rush weaving in and out of cars making our way to the 17th (I wish I…read more

Hemingway’s Paris

Posted by in Inspiration

“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” -Ernest Hemingway As I am currently reading A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway, I thought it would be interesting to go on my own walking tour of Hemingway’s Paris. After doing some research online I pieced together a list of places to visit and started my journey to the left bank of Paris. I took the…read more

Day 2

Posted by in General

Today wasn’t the most exciting day. I am still adjusting to the time difference and still have a little jet lag . I took a walk down to the River Seine and strolled along it’s banks for awhile. Notre Dame was overrun with tourists which discouraged me from stopping for photo. After that I started my way home and stopped at the market and the boulangerie for a baguette. The highlight of my day today was the ham and cheese sandwich I made on a baguette. Tomorrow I am going on my own…read more

I’m Here

Posted by in General

Today was a long day, but well worth it. My flight arrived at about 2 PM local time, one hour late thanks to a drunk French girl that got kicked of my plane at JFK airport. Always being prepared (I mean that sarcastically), I didn’t have any Euros on me when I arrived and the two currency exchange places I passed at Charles de Gaulle were closed. Luckily I found an ATM as the train ticket kiosk to Paris didn’t except my debit card. I finally arrived at my apartment…read more
