La Fête Nationale
La Fête nationale or Bastille Day is the independence day of France and it’s celebrated on July 14th. Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French revolution in 1789. Every year there is a huge celebration involving numerous activities including a parade, the Bals des pompiers (Fireman’s Balls) and fireworks. While I was not able to attend all the events, I did make it to some.
I started off my journey with lunch close to my apartment before making my way to the Champs-Élysées to check out the Arc de Triomphe and the numerous flags lining the street. After that I met some friends for a concert on the Seine River. Once the concert was finished we headed to the closest Fireman’s Ball to finish off the celebration. All in all it was a great day and I felt satisfied that I had made it through my first Bastille Day. the pictures the day are below.
Cheers,
George
